We sincerely appreciate your visit to our site and hope you find it to be helpful and informative. I would like to convey a brief historical background on myself for your information and hope you will have an opportunity to visit our community in the future:
I was born in Sikeston, Missouri, on September 10, 1950, my father was a farmer, he sold his farm in Missouri in 1955 and moved the family to Bossier City, Louisiana, in 1956 where he purchased a cotton and beef cattle farm and where I was raised with my two sisters and brother. I graduated from Bossier High School in 1968, after graduation I enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served overseas and in states. I was honorable discharged in 1972 and went to work for South Central Bell in 1973, I would spend the next 35 years in the telecommunication industry and retired from AT&T in 2008.
I met my wife, Lynn, while stationed in Pensacola, Florida, with the navy and we were married in 1973 after my discharge from the service. We came to Robertsdale in 1977 when I was transferred by the telephone company from Shreveport, Louisiana, to the Mobile Alabama district. We raised our 3 children in Robertsdale, and now have 10 grandchildren. During our time in Robertsdale we have certainly been blessed with the friends and acquaintances that we’ve made and the love and support that has been given to our family from those in our community.
My personal achievements have included receiving an accounting degree from Troy University in 1982. I’m a Rotarian and member of the Robertsdale Rotary Club, I serve as a Chairman of the board for the Alabama Municipal Insurance Corporation, past chairman of the Baldwin County Mayors’ Association, and League President of the Alabama League of Municipalities in 2010-2011. I served as a Trustee for Robertsdale High School in 1990-1998, past executive board member for Catholic Social Services, executive board member with Electric Cities of Alabama, steering committee member with Baldwin County United, volunteer reader at Robertsdale Elementary School, Emeritus Graduate with Alabama League of Municipalities, and a U.S. Navy veteran. I and my family worship at Robertsdale First Baptist Church, where I have been a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and member of the church's real estate committee.
I began my public service career with the City through an appointment to the City’s Zoning Board of Adjustments in 1983; I was then elected to serve one term on the City Council in 1988, and then elected mayor in 1992, I have now served 7 terms as mayor and will begin my eighth term in November 2020.
What I’ve enjoyed the most in my career with the City is being able to help others and to create improvements for our community. We’ve built parks, upgraded our utility infrastructure, created opportunities for our city’s expansion, and most of all we have improved the services and offerings that we provide to the public. We’re a very robust community and our city has grown younger as reflected from the data in our 2000 & 2010 census, even with all the growth we’ve experienced over the last 30 years, we still maintain a small-town favor in our governmental duties for the community and we certainly want to preserve that quality as we journey into the future. “Our policy with the City is to have an open door for everyone”, so if you should wish to establish your business or call us your home, we will gladly welcome you to our “Great Community”.
Best wishes,
